What Information to Provide

Not all browsers, computer platforms, and mobile devices render the same.  The color and font visible on your phone may be slightly brighter and larger than that on your computer or tablet.  Sometimes special characters on one browser or platform render as garbage on another.  As a result, it is critical that you always report:

  • What internet browser you viewed the site on [Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari, android native browser, Dolphin, Opera Mobile, etc]?
  • What version is your browser [go to the About menu item for your browser] or phone operating system?
  • What computer platform or mobile device are you using [Windows, Mac, Android Phone, iPhone, iPad, Windows Phone]?

When reporting a functional issue or a formatting issue tied to functionality (hovering, on holding the mouse down),

1. be sure to provide the url of the page(s) you were visiting

2. please try to provide a step-by-step guide in the form of an outline.  The guide should trace the user interactions needed to recreate the issue.  For example:

  • Hover the Theater section of the Main Menu at the top of any page
  • When the dropdown menu appears, hover the undergraduate link
  • Clicking the link does not load the page

For formatting/display issues, try to provide a screenshot.  (If possible, please annotate it/markup the area of concern).  Please name your screenshot with a friendly description of the issue, for instance: “heading-missing-margin-above-paragraph”.   See the section “Capturing a screenshot and annotating it”.
